MIRI (Nov 10): The spirit of unity in Sarawak is thriving due to the deeply rooted inclusivity of its people.
Senator Dato Dr Nuing Jeluing, who is also Dayak Association of Miri (DAM) senior advisor, described the sense of inclusivity as a remarkable achievement for Sarawakians and something that other states should look to emulate.
Inclusivity, he emphasised, plays a critical role in fostering harmony among the state’s diverse ethnic communities.
“Regular interactions between people of different backgrounds and beliefs help to strengthen inter-ethnic ties.
“Therefore, inclusivity is essential to promoting unity among our people,” he said at the opening of the ‘Multi-Racial Ethnic Traditional Costume Night’ during the Taste of Borneo (TOB) 3.0 Cultural Carnival, held at the Boulevard Shopping Mall’s parking lot on Friday.
On the TOB Cultural Carnival, Dr Nuing said it has become a significant platform to showcase Sarawak’s cultural diversity.
“This event has succeeded in bringing together people from various ethnic groups, creating a sense of togetherness and reflecting the harmonious relationships within the state.”
Commencing on Oct 30, the event has attracted the participation of individuals from 20 ethnic groups and associations in the region.
Visitors are treated to a rich array of traditional dishes, costumes, accessories, and handcrafted goods that were displayed in a specially designed cultural village.
Among those present were DAM president Penghulu Wilfred Mac, TOB organising chairman Harry Lee, and co-organising chairman Ting Pang Soon, who is also Sarawak Chinese Association president.
