SYNOPSIS

Long ago, the giants, animals, birds and man were staying together. Also during those time, there was an old monkey, a witch doctor who had a son named Kangkik. One day, while cleaning (meruti) the chicken's intestine at their landing place, all those village folks who passed Kangkik, shouted to him” What are you doing, Kangkik”? Kangkik replied, I am cleaning the chicken's intestine.” That day, many people passed and asked the the same question which angered him. At last, the Penghulu who happen to pass him also asked Kangkik the same question. Kangkik was so furious and thought that those people were making fool of him and he answered the Penghulu, “ I am cleaning your parents' intestines!”. Angered by Kangkik's answer, the Penghulu instructed his followers to catch and kill him. Did the Penghulu successfully kill Kangkik or not? What happened next to the Penghulu and his followers?

SYNOPSIS

Kumang, together with other ladies from her longhaouse from Gelung went fishing (Mansai). She only caught a small python while the other ladies caught a lot of fish. Kumang kept the snake in a small jar as pet. When the python had grown bigger, it always asked Kumang about the size of her liver. Fearing that the python might kill her for her liver, she ran away. The python followed her up to an open space cleared by the people of Panggau Libau meant for planting padi. Kumang climbed a lensat tree that had not been cut down and transformed herself to become a single lensat fruit. Who save d Kumang and what happened to her after that?

However, while he was away, a man came to her wife's hut. After a few consecutive visits he proposed to marry Kumang , telling her that Keling might have got married to other lady else where. SYNOPSIS

Long ago, there lived a boy named Selidi and his younger sister named Sepatu. who lived far away from other people They lived by themselves as farmers, planting padi and spent their pastime hunting and catching fish (mansai) and also using 'tuba' roots. One day, on reaching home from hunting trip, they found out that they did not have any match to start a fire. Selidi decided to go to Ini Anda to look for fire. While he was away looking for fire from Ini Andan, a giant came to their house and killed Sepatu. Her corpse was eaten up by the giant. Fortunately when Selidi came back from Ini Andan, he found few drops of Sepatu's blood scattered around their house. How did Selidi bring back his sister to life? There were many unusual happenings which were very interesting to read.

SYNOPSIS

A young and deformed boy name Injat; the son of a single mother were alone at home, while his mother was away attending a gawai celebration at a nearby longhouse. He suddenly heard a voice calling his name and telling him to shoot a bird using his blowpipe. When he peeped out through a window, to his surprise, he saw a beautiful bird sitting on the branch of a nearby tree. After he successfully killed the bird using his blowpipe, he brought the dead bird home. What amazed Injat more was the magical powers the dead bird has until Injat was transformed not only into a handsome man but also into a rich man too.

SYNOPSIS

Kai and his mother were staying in a hut by the bank of a river. Kai, because of his tender age, always stayed at home while his mother was away harvesting padi. While he was alone, an eel who could speak usually come to their hut and eat with him the food that his mother had prepared earlier before going to their farm. The eel usually consumed more food than Kai did. Kai became thinner and thinner each day. At last, his mother knew about Kai's predicament. His mother then conspired with Kai and planned a strategy to kill the eel.

SYNOPSIS

An adventurous tortoise was flying with a hornbill looking for fruits. After sometimes the tortoise's wings made from areca leaf sheaths (upih) became twisted due to the hot sun and the water from a coconut used to wash the 'wings' dried up. The tortoise fell down and got trapped between the two branches of a sibau tree. After much enthusiasm, the tortoise managed to free itself, but unfortunately fell into a deep hole underneath. After that the tortoise enticed the mouse deer and other animals including a tiger, a deer and a wild boar to jump into the hole as well. Why did they follow the tortoise's words? How did the tortoise and the mouse deer managed to go out of the hole first. What happened to the other animals after that?

SYNOPSIS

Apai Alui went with his son to check whether their fruit trees at the site of their former house were bearing fruits or not. On reaching the site Alui claimed, he saw their sibau trees (wild rambutan) were ripening. However, according to his father, the reddish color that Alui saw were not the sibau fruits but rather the young sibau leaves. Apai Alui knew very well that Alui was correct but he purposely refuted Alui's claim because he wanted to fetch the fruits alone. He pretended to be suffering from stomach ache and went to the site of their former house to fetch the sibau fruits. Alui's mother became suspicious of Apai Alui's behavior and suspected that he wanted to collect the sibau fruits by himself. When Alui and his mother reached the site to check, their suspicion was correct. Apai Alui was there, up at the top of the tree enjoying the sibau fruits

Apai Alui and his son decided to go hunting(nyumpit) using their blowpipes. When everything were ready they started their trip to one popular hunting ground, which was also usually visited by Apai Keling as well. Here they usually catch many species of birds of different sizes, including the various types of hornbills. They managed to catch a lot of birds. They did not kill the birds but tied all the birds to his loin clothes, waist and other parts of his body. Out of a sudden the birds flapped their wings in unison and the birds fly away carrying Apai Alui with them. What happened to him next? Read further.

At a place called Dilah Benyawa,there was a twenty doors longhouse. The longhouse dwellers were farmers and sometimes went hunting and fishing during their free times. Staying in the longhouse were two brothers, the elder one named Sumping Juring and the younger one named Ranggung Nuchung. They were very lazy and their only hobby was playing tops (gasing). Unable to withstand their behavior, one day during lunch time, their mother put their tops on their plates, which annoyed them. Angered by their mother's action, Sumping Juring decided to run away from home. He told his younger brother to hold one end of the top's string and after an incantation,”Pal Wal Tali Pangka nyentuk ke rayuk perabung Ini Andan” he flew away to Ini Andan's house where he stayed for quite sometimes. What happened when he opened the top of a jar at Ini Andan's house?

SYNOPSIS

A poor man named Rarak, suffering from acute malnutrition during widespread famine due to prolong drought, went to nearby longhouses looking for someone who was willing to accept his old jar in exchange for any amount of rice for his sicked mother. He visited many longhouse but none wanted to accept his old jar. Not successful, he decided to go to other distant longhouses. Finally he came to someone's bathing place and met with a lady who invited him to her longhouse. Who was the lady and whose longhouse was that? While spending the night there, Rarak was asked to narrate stories to the inhabitants of the longhouse. Rarak, not knowing that the longhouse actually belonged to the people of Panggau Libau, also chose to tell a story regarding the people of Panggau Libau much to the pleasure of his audiences. He was handsomely paid in the form of padi by the people of Panggau Libau.

On its way back, the young tortoise met a young Pangolin who laughed at the tortoise's misadventure while attending the gawai at Panggau Libau. Annoyed by the young Pangolin's comments, the young tortoise also laughed at the young pangolin's lack of teeth. What happened to their relationship after that.

SYNOPSIS

This story started with the suggestion by a tortoise to its neighbors; the monkeys to start gardening. The monkeys at last agreed with the tortoise's suggestion and after a meeting they decided to plant banana trees, sugar canes, tapioca and pineapples. However, the monkeys, being not patient waiting for their trees to bear fruit, decided not to continue their plan and started to destroy their garden and ate whatever that was edible. The tortoise however, maintained its garden nicely and all the banana trees and pineapples grew well and started to bear fruits. When its banana was ripening, the tortoise, being not able to climb, asked the monkeys to help to climb the ripen banana. However, the monkeys only threw the banana's skins down and eat the flesh. This angered the poor tortoise and planned its strategies to take revenge. How did the tortoise take his revenge on the monkeys?

A witch cat was summoned to perform a belian (healing ritual) for a sicked young rat. Three days after the ritual, another cat was holding a Sandau Hari festival. The rats and many other animals were invited to attend the function. After much drinking and got drunk, they started to show their own talents in performing different traditional songs. The witch cat began to show its own talent in singing a pengap where he narrated the incident regarding the disappearance of the sicked rat. The father of its victim stood up and replied sarcastically badmouthed the cat's behaviour which sparked off their quarrel. What happened to their relationship nowadays.

Keling, Laja, Sempurai and a few of their other friends from Panggau Libau decided to go to Bukit Telaga Tiga to make wooden mortar. At the top of that hill, there were three wells, frequently visited by the maidens from Gelung to fetch flowers which they usually put on their headdress. Unfortunately, just after Keling had completed making his wooden mortar, his knife fell down and cut his leg. The wound bleed profusely. How did they stop the wound from bleeding? Although the wound looked as if it had healed, Keling's leg was growing bigger each day. Nine months and nine days after the incident, his leg burst up and a baby boy came out of his leg which his grandfather named as Bujang Kempang. When he was seven years old he always asked about the where about of his mother. No one knew who his mother really was and where she lived. How did Keling and the long house folks looked for Bujang Kempang's mother?

About six months after the loss, The king heard that there was a man named Apai Aloi who was an expert in looking for something lost. The king instructed his sailors to sail on a boat to fetch him. He told the two sailors that he was not an expert in the field of looking for the where about of the lost ring. However, after much persuasion, he at last reluctantly followed them. Two single ladies named Kejuang and Entimuk stayed together under one roof. Although they stayed together, they have their own respective farm and live stocks to look after. One day they went fishing (mansai) and out of the many types of fish caught, they caught one catfish each. Kejuang cooked all the fishes she caught while Entimuk spared her catfish which she kept as pet inside a jar. Entimuk's catfish could understand her instructions and helped her weeding her farm. Kejuang were jealous of Entimuk's catfish and killed it? Why?
