KUCHING (Oct 6): This month’s ‘Ibu Pertiwi’ flag raising ceremony, which took place today, celebrated unity in diversity, highlighting the shared heritage of Sarawak’s communities and their collective contribution to fostering harmony.
The Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) in a statement said that this month’s theme focused on traditional and ethnic attire, which reflects the spirit of unity and tolerance within the state’s multicultural society.
“Though we are from different cultures, religions, and ethnicities, we are the children of Sarawak. We live in harmony, peace, and mutual respect in the name of Ibu Pertiwi,” read the statement.
Approximately 200 participants attended the ceremony at Dataran Ibu Pertiwi here, where Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian officiated at the ceremony.
Moreover, the event featured a special lion dance performance, showcasing the cultural pride of the Chinese community.
“The public is invited to attend this monthly event which is held on the first Sunday of every month at Dataran Ibu Pertiwi,” added the statement.
Among those present were Kuching North Datuk Bandar Hilmy Othman, Kuching South Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng, Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang, and other dignitaries.
