KUCHING (Sept 9): A talk titled “Punan Stories of Their History” will be held at the Borneo Cultures Museum Auditorium here at 2pm on Sept 15.

Jointly organised by the Friends of Sarawak Museum (FoSM) and the Sarawak Museum Department, the talk will be delivered by Calvin Jemarang, a member of the Punan community.

“Calvin will share his insights and unveil the rich heritage of the Punan people. The Punan people are often mentioned in passing, but few truly understand their complex history and vibrant traditions,” said FoSM in a press release today.

A talk titled “Punan Stories of Their History” will be held at the Borneo Cultures Museum Auditorium on Sept 15.

The talk will serve as an opportunity for participants to hear directly from Calvin, and gain a fresh perspective on the Punan heritage.

Born in Belaga and raised in the Kakus Tatau District, Calvin is one of the 12 co-founders of the Punan National Association, said FoSM, adding that he is passionate about documenting and preserving Punan history.

According to FoSM, Calvin’s book titled “Punan Myths and Legends” has sparked public interest and debate about the true identity and history of the Punan.

FoSM said Calvin’s talk will trace the history of the Punan people from before 1600, 1600 to 1861 and from 1861 to 1946.

“Calvin will discuss this in the context of development of the Klireng, which has important cultural and spiritual roles in Punan society. He will also highlight the roles and influences of political persons, migrations and conflicts,” added FoSM.

The talk is free to attend. Registration for the talk can be done via https://forms.gle/X1ThDxSBw4ZRnysB8

“We hope that you will join us for this fascinating talk,” said FoSM.
