KUCHING (Aug 15): A martial arts display by various ethnic groups, organised in conjunction with the ongoing Kuching Festival 2024, will be taking place at Jubilee Ground next to Kuching South City Council (MBKS) headquarters this Saturday starting at 6pm.
Kuching South mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said the council has decided to organise the event again this year due to the positive reviews last year and this time a total of 1,120 martial art exponents will be showing their skills.
“Our martial arts display aims to promote greater understanding among the people of Sarawak, particularly our youths.
“It is an opportunity for them to appreciate the diversity of our culture, to learn the values of goodwill, tolerance and unity that these martial arts embody and to cultivate a spirit of togetherness in our community,” he said at a press conference held at MBKS headquarters here yesterday.
Wee expressed his gratitude to Natural Avenue Sdn Bhd for sponsoring an amount of RM10,000 for the martial arts display event.
Among the martial arts to be performed are wushu, taichi, silat, judo, silambam, boxing, kuntau, ‘tempur tanpa senjata (ATM)’ and taekwondo.
