Hailing from Rumah Dilang, Ulu Anap, Tatau, and now residing in Bintulu, Sena expressed her joy and pride in winning the title for the first time.
She recounted her previous experience of securing the runner-up position in a similar competition held at Paragon Bintulu.
“I have been making and selling penyaram around Bintulu town for over 20 years,” she said.
Her delicious penyaram has garnered a loyal customer base, and she frequently receives orders from the public.
“For me, selling penyaram is not just a passion but also a vital source of income,” Sena said.
Each winner received a cash prize, with the champion taking home RM300, the runner-up RM200, and the third-place winner RM100. The prizes were presented by principal of SMK Tatau Dr Layang Ugek.
The penyaram making competition was a delightful event that showcased the rich culinary heritage of the region and celebrated the talents of its people.
Penyaram is made from a mixture of rice flour, corn flour, and coconut milk. The batter is deep-fried, resulting in a crispy outer layer and a soft, chewy centre.
Penyaram is typically enjoyed with tea or coffee, making it a perfect companion for a relaxing afternoon break.
Among those present at the event were Tatau District assistant administrative officer Long Jok, Pemanca Gerosen Jubin and Penghulu Mary Lubon.
